Teachers’ Workshop in Cape Point, Feb 2016
Version 2

B & C Educational sponsored an international teachers’ workshop and welcomed 19 Gambian teachers, 3 Senegalese and 8 UK educationalists.  The morning was spent investigating methods of teaching about the United Global Goals, with the emphasis being on active learning. After a chicken yassa lunch, the Senegalese delegates expressed their pleasure at being at the workshop and shared some of the techniques used in their schools.  Then representatives from Abooku, a UK charity, presented the workshop with draft reading materials which have been designed to help Gambian children practice the sounds they have learnt in their phonics lessons.  This  draft Baobab Reading Scheme was then reviewed by the delegates who offered suggestions for improvements as well as generally welcoming the scheme.
